Online shopping has become an established part of life for some people, and is fast becoming their main shopping choice. Yet there are still many who have yet to make a purchase online. ESDEER asks whether online shopping is friend or foe.
Friend:
- Shop in your jammys if you want
- Great for insomniacs
- No helllish and rude shop assistants
- You can take as long as you want
- Great pricing
- Find items you cant find anywhere else
- Solitude - no crowds
Foe:
- Is it safe?
- Credit card and identify theft worry me?
- What's a computer?
- Teenage hackers in their Dad's garage??
- I might not be happy with what I buy - then what?
- Are they going to deliver it in the farm ute?
The main concerns undoubtedly relate to safety of credit card information and identity fraud. Here are some tips you should be looking for:
- Check that the site you are buying from uses an encryption system for payments or uses a provider such as Paypal to manage payments on their behalf. Paypal is a leading provider of secure online payments and you dont need to be a member to pay with your credit or debit card.
- Try and establish it is a legitimate site by making sure they have contact details listed, you may even wish to phone them.
- Check out their privacy policy - most of these are described on the site under 'Terms and conditions'
- Look for their refund policy as well and how they ship the goods to you - will they refund items you are not happy with and do they use a courier or postage system. What about registered mail?
- Keep a record of all transactions you make online.
- Consider using a separate credit card for your online shopping.
HAPPY SHOPPING - online of course, at ESDEER. Click here and try it out.
