What is a blessing? The joy of waking up every day, the smell of fresh mown grass, our health or all of these things?
For me it is a blessing, to be here, to be surviving without my son – that is something I never thought I could do. The going on, the getting up every day, the joy of a smile again, the smell of the ocean, the autumn leaves on the trees, a beautiful moon and the biggest hug from my gorgeous grandaughter.
Blessings are little and big, short and long, wisps of grace and fragments of bliss. They engulf my life and remind me to be grateful for what I have. It is so easy to forget or not even be aware of how blessed our life really is. Even when tragedy befalls us, there may be one special phone call, a gentle touch or words that lighten our day a little.
John O’Donohue, the Irish poet and teacher, talks of blessings in all of his books. He draws on Celtic spirituality and wisdom to create words on inspiration and wisdom. In his collection “To Bless the Space Between Us – A Book of Blessings” he talks of new beginnings:
“In-out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.”
It is the most beautiful book, and highly recommended as a truly meaningful gift. http://www.esdeer.com.au/details.asp?ID=BBSBU&Category=Books - Healing&SubCategory=Books
Until next time,
